2x8 Deck Joist Span at 16″ On Center
2x8 @ 16″ o.c. is the most-searched residential combo. Table 2 lists 11'-10" (Southern Pine), 11'-1" (DF-L/HF/SPF), and 10'-7" (Redwood group), with overhangs 2'-0", 1'-10", and 1'-7" respectively—before applying L/4.

How to use this combo page
This page isolates one size and one spacing so you can compare species without scanning the full chart. Every figure is the Table 2 cell for 2x8 at 16″ o.c. from span-table.json. For other spacings of the same size, open the 2x8 deck joist span chart. For the same spacing across sizes, see 16 inch on center.
Remember overhang is the lesser of the table LO and L/4 of your actual clear span (overhang rules). Loads stay at 40/10 psf, No. 2, wet service (assumptions). Hot tubs, snow above 40 psf, and roofs are out of scope.
Back to the main deck joist span tool when you want to change all three inputs at once. For reverse lookups by target length, use the filtered lists for 10′, 12′, or 14′ spans.
FAQ
Why not copy a competitor’s 2x8 @ 16 number?
We only publish AWC DCA 6-15 Table 2 cells. If another site disagrees, check their edition, load assumptions, or whether they rounded.
What if I need more than these spans?
Tighten to 12″ o.c., step up a size, add a beam, or hire an engineer for non-prescriptive design.
